Some Home Construction Terms By Terry

T's:  T's are a particular type of framing that is put together out of studs.  The T's are in use to give backing and support where wall intersects another.

Rafters:  Rafters are the wooden members that make up the roof structure.  These could be 2x4, 2x6, 2x8, 2x10's, depending on the need for type of structure.  We normally use 2x4, 2x6 pre-built truss rafters.

Studs:  Studs are the vertical members that make up the exterior walls of a house.  They can either be 2x4 or 2x6, depending on the location and the structure.  We are now using 2x6 exterior walls for more insulation and sound improvements. 

Corners:  Corners are framing studs that are put together to form outside corners of the walls, corners are made up of three studs and at least three blocks depending on the length of the stud.  The three blocks are spaced one on each end and one in the middle on the top of the stud and nailed together.  The second stud is then placed on the blocks and nailed.  The last stud is then placed on the side of the nailed pieces and nailed.  The studs for Corners and T's should be hand picked and straight.  We use air nailers to put the Corners together.

DID YOU KNOW

For odors coming from the garbage disposal drop a bunch of ice cubes and a cup of vinegar in it.  Run for  a minute or so.  The ice will scour the blades to get the stuck-on stuff, and the vinegar will kill the germs.  Yes it works, tried it myself! Terry
