"Serving
Salem And Surrounding Areas"
About
Us....Our Construction Business & History
My
Father, Buren Mulvany started his career during
World War 2 digging fox holes while on the war
front. When he returned home, he soon went
to work doing home siding and remodeling work.
After a few years, he started building houses with
couple of partners. In the late 40's, he
started his own business, Mulvany Construction.
He built several houses per year plus room
additions. In the mid 70's, World Color
Press moved to Salem from Louisville Ky.
This created a major building boom in the Salem
Area. He built as many as 18 houses a year
during this period, I was working for him during
this time. My mother, Ruth, did the
book keeping and pay role for Mulvany Construction
and also for Terry's Construction until the early
90's. In 1980, my father decided to
semi-retire, this is when I started Terry's
Construction. Yes, my father is still on the
job today, supervising the workers. Ok,
about me, As I mentioned above, Terry's
Construction was created early in 1980. I
built my first spec house at Robinson Road and
Mills Cart Road, behind
McDonalds in Salem, borrowed thirty thousand
dollars from Community State Bank in Salem to
build this three bedroom, two bath, two car
garage. (Yes, cost factor is much different
today) In this small
subdivision, we built a total of 8 houses and a
couple of duplex units during the next several years. My father and I have
always built spec. (Speculation) houses along with building for
customers. Soon, we were building several
houses per year. On average, we now build 3 to
6 new homes along with several room
additions/remodeling during the year. We
mostly build in the Salem area, however, we
have built in other areas as well:
Centralia, Flora, Dix, Breeze, Highland and
Lebanon Illinois. Now days, we keep busy
here in the Marion County area. Oh, by the
way, we have lived in over 50 houses in Salem,
build them, move in, sell them, build one, move
in....you get the idea. No, we do not
provide a moving service, leave that to Dalton's
Transfer in Salem.

activities in the community. I have always
been involved in Emergency Services. In the

with Salem Police and a EMT. In 1980, I was
appointed the City of Salem Emergency Management
Coordinator, a part-time position I still hold
today. I belong to the Marion County
911 Board As An Executive Board Member and serve as a member of the

Keeping
a phone list in the kitchen near the phone is not
just a convenient, but a safety feature as
well. Jot down phone numbers for the police,
fire department,EMS,doctors, family members or
neighbors so if you have to act quickly you can.
